Sickness and Healing
Preface
Sickness: Cause and Effect:
Sickness is not a divine punishment but a result of negative mental causes—specifically, subconscious beliefs in limitation, fear, or separation from the Divine. Disease originates in consciousness, which the body, as an automatic, non-intelligent, and reactive instrument, merely acts out.
Science of Mind, Ernest Holmes.

Theme:
Sickness arises when thought opposes the natural harmony of Life.

Lesson
There is within all creation a natural state of wholeness, a spontaneous unity that forever seeks to express itself in balance, order, and harmony. This unity is not something we must create—it is something that already is.

What we call sickness does not originate in the body as a primary cause. The body is an effect, a reflection of deeper currents moving through consciousness. Thought, belief, and inner acceptance act as the formative patterns through which Life expresses. When these patterns are aligned with harmony, the body reflects health. When they are filled with fear, resistance, or division, the body reflects discord.

The Law of Mind operates with perfect correspondence. It accepts the impress of our subjective states and externalizes them as conditions. This is not a punishment, nor a judgment—it is simply law in action. Just as a seed produces after its kind, so thought produces according to its nature.

Sickness, then, can be understood as an effect of misalignment—a temporary acceptance of separation from the wholeness that is always present. It is not a fixed reality, but a condition subject to change. Healing does not come by struggling with effects, but by gently transforming the cause.

As we bring awareness to our inner life, we begin to notice the beliefs we have accepted—often unconsciously. We may discover patterns of fear, worry, criticism, or unworthiness that have taken root. Yet the moment we become aware, we also gain the power to choose differently.

Healing begins with recognition. As we accept the truth of our being—that we are expressions of a perfect Life—we invite that truth to reestablish itself. We align thought with unity, with peace, with wholeness. And as consciousness changes, the body responds.

The same Law that produces sickness also produces healing. It is impartial, faithful, and immediate in its response. When we consciously embody harmony, we allow Life to reveal its natural state through us. Cause is always within. Effect is always without. And as we change the cause, the effect must follow.

Meditative Thought
I recognize the wholeness of Life within me.
I align my thought with harmony, peace, and unity.

Affirmation
I am an expression of perfect Life, whole and complete.
As I accept this truth, my body reflects harmony and well-being.

Spiritual Practice
Today, become aware of any thought rooted in fear, criticism, or separation.
Gently replace it with a recognition of wholeness and unity.
Affirm often: “Life in me is whole, harmonious, and complete.”
